Biography
Miguel Urquizo was born in Salamanca, Guanajuato, on December 1, 1997. He studied musical composition at the University of Guanajuato, with Víctor Ibarra. His training has been enriched by studies and courses taught by internationally renowned composers such as Alex Paxton, Ana Lara, David Hernández Ramos, José Luis Castillo, Rebecca Saunders, Sarah Nemtsov and Panayiotis Kokoras.
He has participated in workshops such as the Kompositionswerkstatt 2023, organized by the WDR (Westdeutscher Rundfunk), the Permanent Program for the Strengthening of Young Composers 2024 by the CEPROMUSIC ensemble, the UNAM 2025 Musical Composition Workshop, the Reading Panel for Mexican Composers 2025 convened by the National Symphony Orchestra (OSN) and the Virtual Brass Academy of the Musikfabrik ensemble.
His works have been performed by important international orchestras and ensembles, including the WDR Sinfonieorchester, the Orchestra of the University of Guanajuato, the Puebla State Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra, the CEPROMUSIC ensemble and the Musikfabrik ensemble, performing at international festivals such as the Manuel Enríquez International Festival of New Music, Callejón del Ruido International Festival and Mixtur Festival in Barcelona. His chamber music has been performed by prominent artists such as Aline Traine, Isaías Villalpando, Irvine Arditti, Joan Martí-Frasquier and Ludwig Carrasco, among others.
Urquizo's music is characterized by its exploration of the intersection between sound and the visual arts, generating a creative dialogue between different artistic languages.
